Folks have been asking me about starting a western fiction magazine. The truth is, western fiction, as a genre, has been less than popular across the mainstream for many years. In the seventies, there was a magazine I used to write for, Far West, a California publication, which folded after a few years for the simple reason that they could not attract enough readers. To my knowledge, there isn’t a national, western fiction magazine on the market, today, and hasn’t been for decades.
The Internet changes the dynamics. First of all, the costs of production are drastically reduced. It is now economically feasible to produce such a magazine. However, as someone who has enough on his plate already, being Editor, publisher and writer of a Western Fiction Magazine, is not that appealing. But, my love for the genre makes me want to keep it alive and move it forward.
Please consider taking my short survey. I need to know how many out there are potential readers, subscribers and writers. Let me know.
Thanks.
